Photography Lighting Classes

All photography classes are one on one instruction. This is not a group setting where you have to wait and take turns taking pictures. This is just you, me, a model, cameras, and lights. We will cover various aspects of lighting, composition, posing, and post production techniques.

These classes require that you have a DSLR preferably with more than one lens, a memory card (the larger the better), a basic understanding of how your camera works (you should already know how to set your f-stop, shutter speed, etc.), and a willingness to learn. I will have wireless triggers but if you have wireless triggers, filters, hot-shoe flash, etc, I encourage you to bring with you what you what you have.

One Light Portrait Class

This class will cover both studio and hot shoe flash lighting using only one light and various modifiers. The class will take place in studio setting and on location working with a model, one light, and reflectors. From the class you get:

4 Hours of one on one training
Understanding of lighting temperatures and their effect in photos
Working with a Soft box, Beauty Dish, Grids, Strip box, Umbrellas, and  other modifiers
A model with multiple wardrobes and multiple shooting setups

Training on creating various effects in camera such as movement and blur effects
The use of reflectors to create different lighting effects
The use of gels to color balance light and create effects
Mixing ambient and flash for better portraits
End of the day editing of five images with instruction on how to edit your files
A model release so you can use your images on your own sites

Fashion/Beauty/Glamour Class

This class will cover both studio and hot shoe flash lighting using multiple lights, modifiers, and set ups. Class will take place on location and studio and will involve two models (one male, one female).

4 Hours of one on one training

Understanding of lighting temperature and their effect in photos
Working with Soft box, Beauty Dish, Grids, Strip box, Umbrellas, and other modifiers
Working with multiple lights and effects
Two models with multiple wardrobe changes and multiple shooting setups

Creating editorial style images including fashion, beauty, and glamour
Working with models one on one and in pairs
Posing and composition
Working with gels to color balance and create effects
Mixing ambient and flash
The use of reflectors, flags, and gobo’s for effect
End of the day editing techniques for five images
Model releases so you can use your images on your own site

BOOKING YOUR ONE ON ONE INSTRUCTION

To book your class you will need to contact me by email here or you can call me directly at 334.797.1389. Classes require a 50% non-refundable deposit to reserve your class date and model.

In the One Light Portrait Class you may request a male or female model. If you do not have a preference a female model will be chosen. This is because female models offer more opportunities to learn various retouching techniques. Class times will be set to offer the best opportunities for natural lighting as possible. This will offer the best opportunity to learn to use flash with ambient lighting.

Classes are subject to rescheduling based on weather or circumstances beyond our control, though every effort is made to schedule a class at the most appropriate times.

There will be no nude modeling and no models under 18. Principles learned in this class can be applied to any type of photography that interest you when you are shooting your own portfolio.
